Turn Your PlayHub Website into an Installable Progressive Web App

PlayHub PWA adds a complete Progressive Web App experience to PlayHub without modifying the PlayHub core. Visitors can install your website on supported desktop and mobile devices, launch it from their home screen, and receive web push notifications after granting permission.

Configuration is handled from the PlayHub Admin Panel. Set your application name, colors, icons, installation behavior, cache version, offline experience, and push notification options from one dedicated plugin workspace.

Web Push Notifications

Keep opted-in viewers connected with standards-based Web Push notifications. The plugin supports VAPID authentication and stores sensitive keys and browser subscription data securely using PlayHub's encrypted storage.

Designed for Privacy and Safe Caching

The service worker does not cache API responses, admin and studio pages, authentication routes, uploaded files, images, audio, videos, or personalized page content. Runtime caching is limited to eligible same-origin frontend assets, while offline navigation uses a self-contained public fallback page.

Easy Administration

1. Upload and enable the plugin from Admin Panel > Plugins.
2. Open Plugins > PWA.
3. Configure branding, application behavior, caching, and installation options.
4. Upload your application icons and review the built-in diagnostics.
5. Optionally configure VAPID keys and enable push notifications.

Requirements

• PlayHub 0.9.12 or newer
• PHP 8.3 or newer
• PHP cURL, Fileinfo, GD, JSON, and OpenSSL extensions
• HTTPS on production websites
• A persistent Laravel queue worker for prompt push-notification delivery
• A supported browser and explicit user permission for push notifications

Important Information

PlayHub PWA creates an installable web application; it does not generate native Android or iOS store packages. Installation prompts and push-notification availability are controlled by each browser and operating system. Some platforms may require users to add the website to their home screen before web push can be enabled.

PlayHub PWA gives PlayHub administrators a focused, secure way to provide app-style installation, offline resilience, and direct audience notifications while preserving the existing PlayHub website and update path.
